If you are a sake lover, a quick glance at the shelves will give you an idea of what this store is all about. The sake selection is centered on locally brewed sake, and the store also focuses on single malt whiskey. Founded in 1787, Tsunoki has a history of more than 230 years, and is also committed to disseminating new ideas from Nishiki Market.

“With the goal of one day going global from kyoto, we buy casks from Scotland and market the resulting whisky under the name "Kyo,” the owner says. “We also visit breweries to have them make sake for us, and we place the highest priority on originality.”

Kyoto also has good local sake. Today, most of the sake Tsunoki handles is from Kyoto, but sake from Shiga is also increasing.

Tsunoki works to get along well with breweries and have deep relationships with them.
