Minoyoshi

  • Japanese sweets

In a word, Minoyoshi is a cereal store, but that does not describe it wholly. It has beans such as black soya beans and azuki beans meant to be cooked at home. It has confectionery ingredients such as Wasanbon sugar and kanbaiko rice flour that are used in Japanese confectionery shops. It also has dried bracken fern starch and frozen konjac jelly used in kaiseki cuisine for special tea ceremonies. There are also a variety of items that, at first glance, even locals wonder what they are used for.

The shop was founded around 1865, so it has a history of more than 150 years. They mainly sells domestic beans such as hana-mame (runner bean) and kintoki-mame (a variety of the common bean), as well as Kyoto-like traditional sweets such as soba-boro (buckwheat cookies) and goshikimame (five-color sugarcoated beans).

There are many legumes that can be used for cooking at home. The people at this shop will explain how to use them.
The fourth-generation owner, her daughter, and her grandson: three generations welcome you at the store.
